Thanksgiving Food Safe For Dogs

Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude and celebration, and many pet owners wish to include their furry companions in the festivities. While sharing the bounty of the season with dogs can be enjoyable, it’s crucial to be mindful of their dietary needs.

One safe delectable option is plain, cooked turkey without bones. Turkey provides a lean source of protein, essential for muscle development, repair, and overall canine well-being. It also provides important nutrients like iron, zinc, phosphorus, and B vitamins. Amino acids in turkey support a dog’s immune system and contribute to healthy skin and coat. Bones can be a choking hazard, so please remove them before feeding turkey to your pet. 

Sweet potatoes, when cooked and unseasoned, offer a nutritious and delicious side dish suitable for dogs. They are rich in fiber, vitamins A & C, and potassium. These nutrients contribute to a healthy immune system, promote good vision, digestion, and support proper muscle function

Green beans are another canine-friendly option. They are low in calories and far, making them a good option for dogs that need to manage their weight. It’s important to prepare without any added seasonings, salt, or oils. 

If you want your pup to have dessert, pumpkin is the way to go. Pumpkin is rich in fiber, which can aid in digestion and help regulate bowel movements. It is often recommended for dogs with digestive issues or constipation. Additionally, pumpkin contains vitamins A, C, and E, as well as potassium. When serving pumpkin to your dog, ensure it’s plain, cooked and without added sugars or spices. Canned pumpkin (pure pumpkin, not pie filling) is a convenient safe option. 

It’s essential to steer clear of dishes seasoned with onions, garlic, or rich sauces, as these ingredients can be harmful to dogs. Desserts containing xylitol or chocolate should be strictly off-limits, as they can have severe health repercussions.
