Fall is finally here. With the beautiful fall weather is also a stormy season. Some dogs aren’t bothered by weather, while others are terrified. There are several ways you can help your pup relax during bad weather.
1. Stay Calm Yourself: Dogs can sense our emotions. Stay relaxed and calm to reassure your dog.
2. Create a Safe Space: Set up a safe, cozy spot indoors where your dog feels secure. It could be a crate, a quiet room, or a comfortable area.
3. Use Positive Reinforcement: Offer praise and treats for calm behavior during storms. Positive reinforcement helps us associate storms with good things.
4. Distract with Play: Engage us in a playful activity like fetch or a favorite game. Distraction can help divert our attention from the storm.
5. Play Soft Music: Calming music or white noise can drown out the storm sounds and help relax us.
6. Consult a Vet: If your dog is extremely anxious, consult your vet for advice. They might recommend natural remedies or, in severe cases, anti-anxiety medication. Remember, patience and understanding go a long way in helping us through the storm.
